How to change the MAC Address in Windows & Linux

As we know every machine over the network has a unique address which is called as Mac address.
as from few tricks you can easily able to modify the address manually or by using software tricks
we can change or spoof them as follow

it can be done several reasons like as 

 * for instance when connectivity to wifi or hotspot
* or to be anonymous for any reason

we can look over the Mac address of our machine using a command as
C:/> ipconfig /alll

The internet is nothing more than a large network. The MAC address is something that is assigned in the chip on the device and is not something the user can change.

Types of MAC address: 
Unicast address : This address is for a specific computer.
Multicast address : This address is for a specific group of computers in network.
Broadcast address : These address are generally for all computers in network.

How To Change MAC Address In Windows

Solution 1:-
  1. You can easily change the MAC Address in the Ethernet adapters properties menu.
  2. Firstly go to “device manager” and select ” Network Adapters” menu.
  3. Go to the Advance tab and you will see the “MAC Address”,”Locally Administered Address”, “Ethernet Address” or “Network Address”.
  4. After openining advance tab you will see the value.You will have to write your new MAC Address on this.
  5. MAC addresses are 12-digit values, and should be entered without any dashes or colons. For example, if you want to make the MAC address “2A:1B:4C:3D:6E:5F”, you would enter “2A1B4C3D6E5F”.
  6. Then restart your computer.
  7. In this way not all the drivers support the changing of MAC addresses.
Solution 2:-
    1. Firstly You will have to be requiring for Administrative User Rights.
    2. In order to easily identify your network adapter in the Windows Registry, you’ll want to gather some basic information about it through the Command Prompt. You can open the Command Prompt by typing “cmd” into the Run box (Windows key + R).
    3. Type ipconfig /all and press Enter. Note the Description and Physical Address for the active network device. Ignore devices that aren’t active (Media Disconnected).
    4. Type net config rdr and press Enter. Note the GUID, which is displayed between the “{}” brackets next to the Physical Address you recorded earlier.
    5. You can start the Registry Editor by opening the Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and typing “regedit”. This will open the Registry Editor, which will allow you to change the settings for your network card.
    6. Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
    7. You will found here the settings of the each network interface.The ‘NetworkAddress’ will be used to set the MAC address of the adapter when next it is enabled.
    8. Resetting the adapter can be accomplished in script with the freely available command line utility.

Checking,Your MAC Address is changed or not?

  1. If you will have to check your MAC address, go to Run, type CMD.
  2. Then type ” ipconfig /all ” in the command prompt.
  3. The number which is inside the physical address is the MAC address.
  4. If multiple IP are displayed, you should look inside  the label “Ethernet adapter x”, where x is the name of your connection (which is Local Area Connection by default).

How to Change MAC Address in Linux

LINUX – If you will have to change your MAC address in Linux ,it is so easy. It takes two easy  script commands:
ifconfig eth0 down hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:01
ifconfig eth0 up
1. These two little commands would set your eth0 interface to use the MAC 00:00:00:00:00:01.
2. Just plug in the NIC(Network Interface Card) you want to set and the MAC address you want to use into the commands above and your done.
3. Changing your MAC address is one of those things that is much easier to do in Linux then under Windows.
